Aloha! As the lights took to the sky during the peak of the 2011 Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Fireworks celebration, a feeling of honor and great responsibility inspired me to take future steps in developing our Chamber of Commerce on the East Side of Oahu. I reflect back on what has transpired since the beginning of the year and I am proud of who we are as community members, neighbors, and Hawaii Kai residents. In this time of great need, many have stepped forward to do what is necessary to maintain, innovate, and succeed. Yes, this year has required all of us to reach down and dig deep. Whether fundraising for Japan relief efforts and school drives, or spending our valuable time and skill with a non-profit cause, we have and will continue to give. Many have been devoting extra hours to a creative new business model that may help us all to become more sustainable. In 2011, organizations such as APEC and SCORE are supporting business owners by helping them create better relationships and building upon Hawaii’s economic growth. I urge you now, more than ever, to get involved in supporting the fireworks event and other worthwhile non-profit causes.
